The recent attack by Israeli forces on the Freedom Flotilla that saw the killing of 9 humanitarian aid workers and activists has brought the plight of the Palestinians in Gaza and the Palestinian struggle back to the forefront of international debate and discussion.

Far from dissuading people from participating in efforts to end this siege, the attack has only served to reinforce the belief that a collective people’s campaign is the only answer to Israel’s vitriolic intentions against the Palestinians. This event if anything, has strengthened global criticism against Israel’s colonising project in the West Bank and also served to unite political, religious, left and progressive activists of the world to challenge the blockade and bring humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and end the blockade.

Important institutions like the European Union (EU), the United Nations (UN), and charities such as Oxfam are also calling for the end to the siege, which is against the principles of human rights’.

India and Palestine

India’s position, since its pre-independence days has been of supporting the Palestinian problem and arguing for a non-violent, long-standing solution to the issue. However, given the political and economic integration between India and Israel in the recent past, much of the support to the Palestinians has been relegated to a minority of political activists and Muslim political organisations.

Now is the chance to reverse this trend and support the Palestinians struggle in Gaza for dignity and freedom.

India Lifeline to Gaza – Campaign to End the Siege of Gaza

The India Lifeline to Gaza – Campaign to End the Siege of Gaza is an initiative of diverse social movements, trade unions, students' associations, human rights/civil liberty groups and many others - who share their support and concern on the Palestinian issue.

The aim of this campaign is to build a diverse and inclusive Asian solidarity for the Palestinians and against the blockade that denies the Palestinians their rights. We are committed to, and believe that there must be a strong Asian involvement in the global movement to end the siege of Gaza and for the liberation of Palestine. It is important that India plays a part in initiating and building the Asian process for solidarity with Palestine.

As part of this campaign, we undertake and commit to organising an Asian land caravan to Gaza. This convoy will leave from New Delhi mid-September and will travel cross Pakistan, Iran, Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt, entering Gaza Palestine through the Rafah Crossing. Convoys and delegations will continue to join the Asian caravan in all the countries that it passes through. We will coordinate with existing and new organisations in each of these countries and commit to develop an Asia level campaign to free Palestine. In each of these countries public meetings, press conferences, meetings with mass organisations and political parties will be organised.

You can support the caravan in many ways, as outlined below – by endorsing the Call Letter, organising fundraising, public events and can also volunteer to be a part of the caravan.

Since we can only accommodate limited number of participants, we urge you to sign up quickly and begin fundraising now to ensure you can take part.

We will update this website with more information about on the Campaign and meetings organised.
